BALTIMORE(AP) Morgan State forced seven turnovers, returning three interceptions for touchdowns, and Devan James rushed for 114 yards in a 49-7 victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday.
The Bears (1-1) broke a team record with six interceptions and totaled 369 yards on offense. N.C. Central (0-3), which is playing its second season of Division I football, had 163 total yards and is 0-3 for the first time since 1999.
Morgan State set the tone by scoring on the game's first possession with a six-play, 66-yard drive that ended with a 6-yard run by James.
Morgan State put the game out of reach with four touchdowns in the second quarter. Keith Lee scored his first career touchdown on a 23-yard run, Aaron Moore had a 28-yard run, Edwin Baptiste caught a 13-yard pass from Carlton Jackson and Darren McKhan had a 49-yard interception return to help put the Bears take a 35-0 lead into halftime.
N.C. Central was held to 75 yards of total offense in the first half, compared to 252 for Morgan State. Jarrell Guyton and Rodney Etienne scored Morgan State's second-half touchdowns off interceptions from 22 yards and 60 yards, respectively. N.C. Central got on the board when Stadford Brown threw a 22-yard pass to Will Scott with 12:53 left in the game.
It was the 35th time the teams have met, but the first since 1982. The Bears lead the series 21-12-2.
