UC Davis beats Portland State 38-24

DAVIS, Calif.(AP) Sophomore running back Joe Trombetta ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns to lead UC Davis to a 38-24 victory over Portland State on Saturday night.
Greg Denham threw for 361 yards and one touchdown, and Brandon Tucker ran for 89 yards and two scores for the Aggies (1-2).
Drew Hubel threw for 337 yards and three TDs for the Vikings (1-1), who lost to UC Davis for the second year in a row.
The Vikings were trailing 21-7 after the first quarter until Hubel hooked up with Ty Coleman for a 9-yard touchdown pass, then with Aaron Woods for a 24-yard TD strike with 1:57 left in the second quarter. UC Davis kicker Sean Kelley broke the 21-21 tie by kicking a 34-yard field goal to give the Aggies a 24-21 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Rice caught a 31-yard pass on the Vikings' 2-yard line to set a touchdown run by Brandon Tucker to extend the Aggies lead 31-21.
Tucker came back early in the fourth quarter with a 40-yard run to the end zone and the Aggies last score of the game.
Brandon Rice caught eight passes for 137 yards for UC Davis.
