WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.(AP) Devan James rushed for 97 yards and Morgan State and held Winston-Salem played strong in a 21-7 victory on Saturday night.
Each team had five turnovers but the Bears (2-1) held the Rams (0-3) to just 51 yards rushing and scoreless until Shawn Kearney returned an interception for a touchdown to cut Morgan State's lead to 14-7 with 3:38 remaining.
Morgan State padded its lead on Justin Lawrence's 1-yard run with just 20 seconds left in the game.
The Rams took a 7-0 lead on Troy Leftwich's 45-yard interception return with 9:34 left in the first quarter.
Keith Lee's 3-yard run gave the Bears a 14-0 lead with 1:50 remaining in the second quarter. Carlton Jackson threw for 131 yards and two interceptions for Morgan State.
Jarrett Dunston had only 82 yards passing for Winston-Salem, which was held to an average of 1.2 yards a rush.
