Late field goal lifts Hofstra over RI, 23-20

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.(AP) Roger Williams kicked a 38-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to give Hofstra a 23-20 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
Rhode Island (1-3, 0-2 Colonial Athletic Association) tied the score with 47 seconds to play when Anthony Ferrer ran in his second touchdown from a yard out and Louis Feinstein missed the extra point attempt.
Rams quarterback Derek Cassidy was 18-for-32 with two interceptions and one touchdown, a 2-yard pass to Ferrer.
Brock Jackolski rushed 13 times for 144 yards for the Pride (1-2, 1-0). His longest run covered 64 yards. Everette Benjamin had nine carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Hofstra quarterback Cory Christopher completed 25 of 33 passes for 265 yards. He also gained 97 yards on 22 attempts and scored on a 1-yard run with 8:21 left. Hofstra took a 17-14 lead after Christopher passed to Aaron Weaver for the two-point conversion.
Williams increased the lead to 20-14 with 33-yard field goal with 3:27 left.
Rhode Island took a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game when Jimmy Hughes scored on a 37-yard run and Feinstein kicked the extra point.
