Texas State wins 38-35 over N. Colorado

GREELEY, Colo.(AP) Andrew Ireland kicked a 29-yard field goal to give Texas State a late lead, and the defense recovered a fumble at the 1-yard line in the final seconds to seal a 38-35 win Saturday over Northern Colorado.
Northern Colorado (0-2) trailed 35-28 late in the third quarter after Alvin Canady's 5-yard touchdown run for Texas State with 20 seconds left. On the first play of the next possession, Bryan Waggener connected with Brandon Smith on a 75-yard TD pass. Michael York's kick was good to tie it 35-35.
After Ireland's kick with 2:11 left in the game, Northern Colorado marched down the field. On third and 10 at the Texas State 31-yard line, Waggener completed a 30-yard pass to Ryan Chesla to get to the 1-yard line. With 19 seconds left, Waggener fumbled on the next play, and Texas State (2-1) recovered to seal the win.
Waggener was 31-for-51 passing for 392 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
Clint Toon completed 18 passes on 32 attempts for 227 yards, an interception and a touchdown in his first start at quarterback for Texas State.
Canady scored three touchdowns and had 84 all-purpose yards for Texas State.
