NEWARK, Del.(AP) Johnathon Smith's two touchdowns were part of Delaware's 31 unanswered points as the Blue Hens whipped Albany, N.Y., 38-7 on Saturday night.
Delaware (2-2) broke open a 7-7 tie in the second quarter when cornerback Tyrone Grant intercepted a Vinny Esposito pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown.
Martwain Johnston pulled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Robby Schoenhoft and Jon Striefsky followed with a 43-yard field goal as Delaware stretched its advantage to 24-7. Smith added a three-yard scoring run on the first play of the fourth quarter, and a four-yard scoring run by Jerry Butler finished the scoring.
Schoenhoft completed 10 of 16 passes for 166 yards.
Delaware scored on its second possession of the night when Smith's two-yard touchdown run capped off a six-play, 60-yard drive with 7:06 left in the first quarter.
David McCarty's fourth-and-goal plunge from the one provided Albany's only score.
Esposito was 10-of-20 for 90 yards.
