PINE BLUFF, Ark.(AP) Ulysses Banks scored Alabama A&M's first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the final minute of the opening quarter, and finished as the Bulldogs' leading rusher in a 23-17 victory Saturday night over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
UAPB (0-4) completed less than half its passes and managed only 133 yards total offense, while Alabama A&M (2-3) racked up 282 yards, split evenly between passing and rushing. Banks amassed 45 yards on 21 carries to lead all rushers.
After a Carlos Reyes field goal for UAPB cut the Bulldogs' lead to 6-3 early in the second quarter, a 43-yard kickoff return by Alabama A&M's Thomas Harris, followed by a 15-yard run and a holding penalty, gave Alabama A&M the ball at the UAPB 20. That set up a 20-yard touchdown run by Anthony Green.
That was followed by a 6-yard scoring pass a little over 5 minutes later by the Bulldogs' Kevin Atkins, caught by Nate Baxter.
UAPB's Jonathon Moore threw to Danny Evans for a TD on a play that started 57 yards from the end zone to trim the visitors' lead to 20-10.
But a Jeremy Licea field goal from 40 yards out gave the Bulldogs a 23-10 halftime edge.
The Golden Lions' final score came on a 3-yard run by Martell Mallett a little over 2 minutes into the second half.
