SAN MARCOS, Texas(AP) Decker Alexander ran the ball 32 times for 114 yards and a touchdown to help Southern Utah beat Texas State 34-20 on Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds (2-3) used a balanced offensive attack to offset the two-headed passing attack from Texas State quarterbacks Bradley George and Clint Toon, who threw for a combined 301 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The two teams have met each other on the field nine times. The Thunderbirds lead the all-time series 5-4.

Cody Stone hit 16-of-36 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns for Southern Utah. He threw two interceptions, hitting Nick Miller and Tysson Poots six times each for two scores.

Toon was 20-of-34 for 172 yards and had one touchdown and an interception for Texas State (2-2). George finished the night 9-of-18 for 129 yards and one touchdown.

The Bobcats racked up 451 yards of total offense in the loss but converted on only 3 of 15 third-down attempts. Southern Utah was 6 of 15 on third-down and held the ball nearly eight minutes longer than the Bobcats in the victory.
