DOVER, Del.(AP) Herbert Bynes threw a 26-yard touchdown to Justin Brown in the fourth quarter to lift Hampton to a 17-14 victory over Delaware State on Saturday.

On third-and-8 with 3 minutes, 19 seconds remaining in the game, Brown caught the pass and fought off four defenders to score for the Pirates (4-1, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Instead of attempting a game-tying field goal from 33 yards out on fourth down with 21 seconds left, Delaware State (1-3, 1-1) went for a touchdown. But Vashon Winton's pass on Delaware's final down went incomplete to turn it over on downs.

Delaware State went ahead 14-9 on Wintons 6-yard passing score to Jahmel Bashir with 13:39 to play. Winton also rushed for a score on a 51-yarder in the third quarter that gave the Hornets their first lead, 7-6, with 11:57 remaining.

Turavani made his first field goal in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead. His second, with 14:12 left in the half, gave the Pirates a 6-0 lead.

Hampton kicker Carlo Turvani made field goals of 42, 19 and 28 yards.
