CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.(AP) Rodney Allison will not return as Chattanooga's football coach next season.

Athletic director Rick Hart said Tuesday that Allison will continue as coach through the final four games of 2008 but his contract will not be extended.

Allison is 17-47 in his sixth season at Chattanooga including 1-7 this season. The only win was Sept. 6 against Cumberland, an NAIA school.

Hart said Allison "changed the culture surrounding our football program by restoring our internal priorities, academics and the personal development of our student-athletes. The academic profile of our program is stronger than it has ever been and our student-athletes are visibly engaged with our community."

"The on-field performance does not match the off-field productivity," Hart said.

Allison said at the news conference that he "had a dream to be a head football coach one day, I got that chance and I am very appreciative for it. I always have and always will believe in the future of this football program, and did everything I could to maintain that future by not taking a win-at-all-costs attitude."
