CLEMSON, S.C.(AP) Clemson backup quarterback Willy Korn had surgery on his right shoulder and could be ready to play in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day.

The surgery Sunday fixed damaged cartilage in Korn's throwing shoulder, and he's begun rehabilitation, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Thursday.

Korn left warmups for the Nov. 22 game at Virginia after feeling discomfort. The freshman is 26-of-38 for 216 yards, a touchdown and an interception in six games.

Swinney said senior Cullen Harper will start at the Gator Bowl, with sophomore Michael Wade as backup if Korn doesn't recover.
