Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Richard Stanzi threw for 197 yards and four touchdowns as the Iowa Hawkeyes rolled to an impressive 35-3 victory over the rival Iowa State Cyclones at Jack Trice Stadium.
Stanzi completed 18-of-34 pass attempts in the win, while Brandon Wegher ran for 101 yards and a score on just 15 carries for the Hawkeyes (2-0).
Alexander Robinson ran for 100 yards to lead Iowa State (1-1) in the losing effort, as quarterback Austen Arnaud threw for a mere 79 yards and four interceptions for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones took a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter with a 46-yard kick from Grant Mahoney.
But Iowa responded less than a minute later, as Stanzi found Brett Morse for a one-yard toss to give the Hawkeyes a 7-3 advantage.
The Hawkeyes took a 14-3 lead into the break following an 18-yard pass from Stanzi to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos late in the second period.
Stanzi gave Iowa a 21-3 advantage early in the third quarter with a 7-yard strike to Allen Reisner.
A one-yard Wegher plunge late in the frame gave the Hawkeyes a 28-3 lead.
Iowa tacked on another score late in the final period of play following a 10- yard toss from Stanzi to Keenan Davis.
