Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Ben Chappell threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Indiana Hoosiers to a 38-21 victory over the Akron Zips in a non-conference matchup at InfoCision Stadium.

Darius Willis (15 carries, 66 yds) and Trea Burgess (13 carries, 59 yds) each registered a rushing touchdown for the Hoosiers (3-0).

Matt Rodgers got the start at quarterback for Akron (1-2) and the sophomore struggled, throwing four interceptions in the loss. Starting quarterback Chris Jacquemain was suspended indefinitely on Friday for a violation of team rules.

Ray Fisher quieted the crowd by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to give Indiana a quick 7-0 lead.

After a defensive stop, the Indiana offense took the field and marched 61 yards in 13 plays, with Nick Freeland splitting the uprights for a 25-yard field goal.

But Akron came back with a quick score on its next possession, as Rodgers found Deryn Bowser for a 49-yard scoring strike to cut the deficit to 10-7.

The Zips took the lead midway through the second quarter on a blocked punt, as Aaron Williams dove on the loose ball in the end zone.

However, the Hoosiers answered with a 12-play, 77-yard drive, capped by Chappell's 10-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Evans with 37 seconds remaining in the half.

Chappell extended IU's lead to 24-14 on a three-yard touchdown pass to Max Dedmond midway through the third quarter.

Trea Burgess made it a 31-14 game when he burst into the end zone on a five- yard run in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

Willis padded the lead with a two-yard touchdown run with seven minutes to play, while Akron's final touchdown came on a nine-yard run by Rodgers in the final minute.

The Hoosiers defense came away with four second-half turnovers after leading by three at intermission. Austin Thomas had two of the team's four interceptions for the game.
