Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Jeff Fleming threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Anderson with 39 seconds left, as the New Mexico State Aggies clipped the New Mexico Lobos, 20-17, in a clash of state rivals at University Stadium in Albuquerque.

This was the 100th meeting between the two teams, as NMSU (2-2) snapped a six- game slide to the Lobos. Fleming came off the bench for the Aggies to complete 4-of-5 passes, while Seth Smith paced the ground attack with 113 yards on 31 carries. Starting quarterback Trevor Walls threw for just 77 yards and a pick, but he did rush for a touchdown in the victory.

Demond Dennis led the way for the Lobos (0-4) with 98 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Donovan Porterie threw for 206 yards and a score, while Ty Kirk hauled in seven balls for 105 yards.

The Aggies started the scoring with a 42-yard field goal by Kyle Hughes just over four minutes into the contest.

The Lobos responded just over three minutes later with a two-yard touchdown run by Dennis.

NMSU struck early in the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown run by Walls. They then tacked on a 40-yard field goal by Hughes for a 13-7 lead.

UNM, though, would grab a 14-13 lead just before the half, as Porterie threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Chris Biren.

The lone points of the third quarter was a 30-yard field goal by UNM's James Aho.

Trailing 17-13, the Aggies put together a 17-play, 59-yard drive that lasted seven minutes and was capped with the game-winning touchdown pass from Fleming to Anderson.

The Lobos, however, were able to move into field goal position in the final seconds, but Aho's 47-yard attempt was wide right and the Aggies survived.

NMSU possessed the ball for nearly 38 minutes of the game despite being outgained 356-218 by UNM.
