West Point, NY (Sports Network) - Ross Thevenot's 23-yard field goal with 2:20 left made the difference, as the Tulane Green Wave edged the Army Black Knights, 17-16, in a non-conference battle at Michie Stadium.

Joe Kemp threw for 166 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-24 pass attempts for the Green Wave (2-2), while Jeremy Williams hauled in six balls for 108 yards and a score. Andre Anderson carried the ball 17 times for 70 yards and a score, as Tulane won its second game in a row.

Quarterback Trent Steelman paced Army (2-3) with 95 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. He, however, threw for just 26 yards and a pick in Army's second straight loss.

Army jumped out quickly in this one, as Steelman rushed one yard for a touchdown just under three minutes into the game. Alex Carlton tacked on a 37-yard field goal later in the frame and the Knights held a 10-0 lead after one period of play.

Tulane got on the board eight seconds into the second quarter, when Kemp threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Williams. Both offenses were held in check for the remainder of the half.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Army pushed its lead to 16-7 with back- to-back field goals by Carlton early in the final frame.

The Green Wave refused to go away and pulled within two points behind a one- yard touchdown run by Anderson with just over nine minutes to play.

With 2:20 to go, Thevenot booted a 23-yard field goal to push Tulane ahead and the Green Wave would benefit from a missed 37-yard field goal attempt by Carlton with 11.6 seconds remaining.
