DOVER, Del.(AP) Malcolm Long threw two touchdown passes, and South Carolina State withstood a second-half rally to hold off Delaware State 23-17 on Saturday.
Long's touchdown passes of 7 and 48 yards to Octavius Darby pushed the Bulldogs (7-2, 5-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 16-3 halftime lead.
After Delaware State's Jerome Strums intercepted Long late in the third quarter, the Hornets (3-5, 3-3) mounted a second-half rally against the conference's only remaining unbeaten team.
Erick Jones caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Vashon Winton with 52 seconds in the third quarter for the Hornets, and Jaashawn Jones also scored on a 3-yard run to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 23-17 with 8:44 to play.
But South Carolina State ended the threat when it held off Delaware State's final drive with less than two minutes to play. On a fourth down from the Bulldogs' 48, Winton's pass to Darius Jackson fell incomplete.
