Custom Teams
| It would be awesome to be able to create a custom “team” in the myStats section. Specifically, in five years, I’ve never found a good site for fantasy college basketball (and I have ended up manually updating information for our “League” that whole time). If I could create “teams” on your site, it would make things a hundred times easier!
Zack | | | | What information/stats would you like to see with your “team”? You can add players from different teams to your My StatSheet page. Or are you wanting to see their combined stats as part of your “team stats”? Interesting idea and definitely doable. Just give me a few more ideas on what you’d like to see. | | | | I was thinking something that would combine the stats for a team “score”—Ideally, each player could be assigned a value based on their individual stats (1 pt for each pt, 1 pt for each assit, 1 pt for each rebound, etc, but this would also be customizable) then the team “score” would combine those values. It would also be nice to see their combined team stats (total points, rebounds, etc) as part of the “team” stat/information. Even if the custom value isn’t possible, simply having them grouped with their game stats would be great.
Going the extra mile . . . . the team would be able to have 5 starters and ‘x’ bench players (three in my scenario) so that the starting lineup could be adjusted based on the team “owner”
Now that I think about it, another issue would be figuring out how to pick what individual game counts for the “team” game for totalling up the stats . . . it would need to be custimizable as well.
Basically, it would allow me (this is all for selfish reasons!) to be able to keep track of my fantasy leage much easier. Eventually, I suppose if you had enough interest, you could add a full blown fantasy section and charge for it, but simply having the custom team stats would save me countless hours updating my League scores each week!
Let me know what else I can do or answer!
Zack | | | | Addendum to request. Just noticed the play-by-play features . . . that would be AWESOME if it could be incorporated in the custom teams.
One would need to be able to select the 5 random players (or 8, etc) and the real games that would count for that game, then your play-by-play would merge it into a single flow of events. It would be the coolest thing ever!
Just livin the dream . . . | | | | Hello—just checking in to see if this request is a possibility in the forseeable future. The closer we get to the start of the basketball season, the more I think being able to use this site to combine player stats (especially the play-by-play feature) would be just really really cool :)
Thanks,
Zack | | | | Hello - so I just realized you live in the Triangle! Go Heels! (I live in Raleigh but work at UNC)
Anyway - I’ve put together a little sample of a custom team play-by-play—I had to grab some stats from CSTV since there isn’t a play-by-play for every game on this site (I’ve noticed UVA is horrendously bad at posting play-by-plays, even on their CSTV website, while most other schools do have a fairly inclusive play-by-play including TOs, etc)
Anyway, just wanted to post a link so you could check it out:
This is the data:

I paste the play-by-play for each team into an excel sheet and then filter the data by just the players I am looking for. I can then copy and past the 5 players from each team into another excel sheet and resort by the timestamps of each play, From there, I have a rididulous long nested IF formula that looks for keywords (rebounds, dunk, layup, 3, turnover, etc) that will then add up the score for each time.
The finished result is a linegraph that displays the flow of 5 “random” acc players playing against each other and their combined team score.

Kind of cumbersome (and currently a little time consuming. But I’m pleased with the results!
